Role Overview:

To manage and supervise the Legal Support Unit of the Legal & Compliance Department (L&C) and to provide and/or ensure pragmatic and sound legal strategy advice and guidance to necessary stakeholders within the company; to ensure legal representation for the company at any relevant forums; to safeguard the company’s legal interests in present and potential disputes, while maintaining high ethical standards. The incumbent should have the ability to independently prepare and execute legal strategies through cross-functional collaboration and project/squad-based way of work. She/he will also be required to maintain and further develop excellent working relationships with external law firms.

The purpose of this job is to enable the company to adhere to the applicable laws and regulations and to safeguard the company’s legal interests. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management and supervision of the Legal Support Unit of the Legal & Compliance Department.

  • Capacity Building, capability building and awareness building to ensure an engaged and enabled future fit team for a telco-tech.

  • Legal advice (strategy development and execution) and legal representation.

  • Legal and regulatory compliance.

  • Risk management, mitigation and reporting.  

  • Contingency and disclosure review.

  • Policy compliance-related advice and supervision.

  • Liaison with external legal counsel and payment administration.

Educational and Professional Qualifications

  • LL.B (Hons) from a reputed university.

  • LL.M from a reputed University or vocational degree (such as Bar Professional Training Course) or equivalent, 

  • Enrollment for the Hon’ble High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.

Experience

  • A qualified lawyer with 12-14 years of solid legal practice experience and/or in-house working experience at reputed MNCs.

  • Necessary areas of knowledge include expert level knowledge in telecommunications, digital and associated laws, IT, corporate and commercial law, employment law, finance, corporate governance and legal compliance for listed companies, contract law and any other areas of law relevant for MNCs. Procedural and substantive knowledge on civil and criminal litigations before the Hon’ble Supreme Court, learned Lower Courts (including Labour Courts) and Tribunals. 

  • Ability to independently develop and drive projects and legal strategies on complex matters.

  • Strong legal drafting and vetting skills, project management skills and negotiation skills.

  • Excellent working relationship with reputed law firms inside and outside of Bangladesh.

  • External counsel management (including developing and managing Counsel agreements, service assurance, payment processing and tracking). 

  • Legal Risk Management (Identification, mitigation, advice and reporting).

  • Ability to review contingencies, disclosures etc.

  • Strong (verbal and written; in English and Bangla) report generation and presentation skills (internal and external forums).
